How did we get started?
It all began over 45 years ago by Joe Stringer, a bosun mate in the Navy. His love for fish and seafood, combined with his entrepreneurial spirit yielded one of the most favorite eating places Jones County, Mississippi has ever seen. After the passing of his long time business partner and wife Shirley, Papaw Stringer removed himself from the restaurant business. Though out of the restaurant business, his love and passion for serving his customers never left him. In 1999, he opened Catfish One which was a smaller version of his full size Bosun Joe's restaurant but with a limited menu. This concept would flourish under the management of his grandson Joe-Michael Robertson and became a 40 store concept in under 10 years.
Current Day
In November of 2010, Bosun Joe's was reborn in Ellisville, MS. Located in The Historic Hotel Alice, we are still serving those famous foods that became so popular nearly a half century ago along with some new additions that are becoming instant favorites. Our current establishment displays the charm of a century old hotel that is completely original down to the heart pine floors and wood ceilings/walls. As the heart of downtown Ellisville, MS, the hotel now serves as home to Bosun Joe's, a new local favorite and a reminder of warm memories from years past. We look forward to you dropping in, sharing a story or two, and enjoying the best fish and seafood in the area. We prepare each meal from scratch and cook it only after you order. Always have and always will. Once you walk in the door at Bosun Joe's your more than a customer, your a friend. See you soon!
